Master Capstone Project: Providence True Civic HeartSeparated by I-95 and the Providence River in the west and east, Downtown Providence,Rhode Island is purposely connected with surrounding areas by harsh-condition bridges, which have fast traffic, a plain appearance and poor ecological environment. Uneven distribution of green open space and lack of connectivity restricts the vibrancy and attraction of the downtown and limits a wide range of users.
The site of this project, is Burnside Park and Kennedy Plaza in front of Providence City Hall and Federal Court. The project goal is to create a cultural, memorable and sustainable central park in downtown Providence. We aimed to transform the site from a bus hub to a transit-friendly public realm by integrating the historical Burnside Park and City Hall Plaza (called Kennedy Plaza) together. • The Design replays the historical footprint but also embeds modernized landscape by considering everyday users experience and different targeted visitors’ need. • The proposed central park, as ‘True Civic Heart’, knit all urban infrastructure in Downcity District together, as well as connecting with waterfront and surrounding neighborhoods. |

Undergraduate Capstone Project: Boston Environmental Science and Landscape Architecture Magnet High School Campus Design For my undergraduate capstone project , we chose a site in the New England area and selected an appropriate land use. My interests revolved around urban waterfronts and academic campuses. This project integrates these two main elements with vibrant, inspired and connective placemaking, providing a high-quality waterfront public realm with the emphasis on high school function for the nearby neighborhoods. The theme color and name of this park: MINT BLUE is inspired by the mingling of the waterfront (Blue) and public space (Green) elements. HARTFORD PROMISE ZONE VACANT LOTS STUDY AND SITE DESIGN The general goal for publicly vacant sites within the federal promise zone in Hartford, CT is to repair the degraded sites and introduce a healthy and productive open/green spaces that will thrive neighborhoods and have social, economic, and environmental benefits. This site design aimed to provide the community a vibrant place to gather together, to attract kids and adults as well as remediate the contaminated soil and address the street stormwater management issues. By using the iconic street painting, the design deals with the unsafe pedestrian environment at the crossing and make the streets more walkable, providing the community a place to increase identity and unity. |
